Q; Is Permanent Makeup in all it's forms a tattoo? Even Microblading and Nano Brows?

A: Yes!, to both questions. Permanent makeup is the process of implanting pigment into the skin using a tattoo machine or handheld tool and is to be considered a specialty inside the body art/tattooing industry with permanent makeup services being offered inside med spas, and beauty salons nationwide. I think there's a place for Artists in both industries, but that fact remains that it is a tattoo. With the ability to be a very permanent or semi-permanent result, depending on the application, and client preference.

Q: Why does it fade so much?

​

A: Fading is contributed to many factors including; environmental factors, skin type, how conservative the application was, and time. Even if your client is looking for a super dark saturated makeup look and that's what you give them, it will be bold and faded once healed. This is why educating your client is important. Same as the way your fresh black on a tattoo has bold vivid color, and then a healed one. Still beautiful, just healed.  This is also the beauty of the evolution of PMU over the years. The initial application is becoming more conservative with verbiage around the need for color boosting maintenance throughout the lifetime of the makeup, preparing clients for the fade.

Q; Is it painful? 

​

A: While we use low percentage numbing creams, it is a tattoo on the most delicate areas of your face.  We continue to use numbing throughout, but minor discomfort can be expected. Our artists are trained to have a soft efficient touch with every client.

Q; How long will it last? 

​

A: Typically, my clients go 1-3 yrs before contacting me for a color boost/touch-up, the 4/6 week touch up is completed after the initial appointment.

Q: Why do I need the MANDATORY 4/6 touch up, if this is a tattoo?

​

A: Because this allows the Artist to see you in person, and how your skin healed. Addressing any faded spots and  going over the entirelty of both brows. This application ensures the 1-3 yr retention.

Q; Why train with Bre? 

​

A: My courses are designed for the success of each student, providing a solid foundation and understanding of the application of permanent makeup. encompassing all areas, Brows, Eyeliners, Lips, and Freckles, as well as all the techniques. microblading, powder brows, ombre, combination, and machine hairstrokes (NANO), and two eyeliner techniques; machine and manual pointillism. My courses are multiple days spread out into 4 weeks to ensure adequate theory, and practice on simulated skin before models. In the final week of class, you have the opportunity to perform services on up to 4 models with my supervision to begin your portfolio. I'm very good at teaching and articulating this skill to others, creating some amazing and successful artists to date.

Q: What are the pre-requisites for PMU training in Colorado?

​

A: The summer of 2026 presented the Colorado permanent makeup industry a shift, allowing tattoo/body artists to perform and offer this skill alongside the beauty industry. Depending on the county you lived in this was already happening and DORA just caught up to speed with the nationwide standard. Permanent Makeup is a tattoo, and a great service for salon and spas as well. I have trained hundreds of students under the umbrella of DORA with my 132 hr curriculums. THESE TRAININGS ARE NOT THAT. This industry shift is exciting and presents an incredible opportunity to existing tattoos artists or new entrepreneurs ready to explore their talent in this industry. Once the foundation is secure the avenues are endless with many artists focusing on a specific area of the face, creating signature styles, and names for themselves along the way. The beauty industry will still require "132" hr certificates for established esthetician and cosmetologists, however you can bypass that with a body art license which in some counties you already need. The beginner course is my former 132 hr curriculum with an added day; the amount of in person hours is the same as we ran on approved hybrid hours. This is valuable beginner education, with a refresher course designed for anyone wanting to add to their certifications, along with working tattoo artists. I can't wait to meet you all in class.
